Can superheroes do it solo anymore?

In the day and age of epic Avengers movies and Batman vs. Superman , it seems that ensemble superhero movies are the new norm. You have Hulk apparently appearing in the next Thor movie.  The Flash appeared in an episode of last season's Supergirl . Superman (not Henry Cavill) is going to be making appearances in this season of Supergirl . Then you have Ghost Rider appearing in this season of Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D . In Season 2 of Daredevil , you had Elektra and The Punisher making appearances. Even Deadpool had a little crossover assistance from Colossus (because Fox couldn't afford to get any big names, as Deadpool stated in the movie). That's a lot of crossover situations there. I'm thrilled, as a fan. It's fun to see different superheroes interact with each other and it really stirs up the storylines. It got me thinking though: are there any superheroes left who could carry a television show or box office on their own? The X-Me...

Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., season 3 finale - reaction (yes, there are spoilers in here)

I haven't done a full-on review of any of the seasons of Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. yet, but I've been watching all the episodes since season 1. Granted, I got a late start -- having only watched season 1 once it was on Netflix. But, thanks to ABC's online offerings and Hulu, I've been doing a much better job with staying up-to-date on AOS. I saw the season 3 finale and I was a little bit torn. First off -- I can't believe Grant Ward died. Well, he technically died several months ago, as Hive took over. To be real, he wasn't the most amazing actor in the world. To be honest, I thought he should've been killed off in the season 2 finale. That being said, the dude has managed to survive two full seasons after turning his back on S.H.I.E.L.D. in a double-cross. That's a pretty big accomplishment --- and I was kind of looking forward to seeing what crazy way Grant Ward (or an alien in his body or his evil twin or his haunting ghost, et...

The best agency names

On Tuesday, Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. will premiere on ABC. I sat through three previews for the show when I went to see Iron Man 3 at the cheap theatre a few weeks ago. It looks like it could be a good TV show. At first I had doubts, but it looks like they are going to keep the show in line with the universe Marvel has so masterfully set up with the first two Iron Man movies and The Avengers . Instead of focusing on billionaire's with suits made of iron, giant green genetic freaks, or Gods from another dimension, the show is going to focus on a team of mortals -- doing whatever they can to fight the threats that haunt the U.S. and the world. What exactly is S.H.I.E.L.D. though? It's a fictional espionage team that's been highlighted in multiple Marvel comics, TV shows and movies.
