Some of the best and worst movies of 2020

Boy, who could have ever predicted what 2020 would bring, huh?  It was supposed to be the year of the female superhero, with Harley Quinn, Black Widow and Wonder Woman dominating the screen.  That didn't quite happen, but the Harley Quinn movie did end up being one of the top grossing movies of the year.  That probably wouldn't have happened without COVID-19. Despite the pandemic, there were some good movies released in 2020.  A lot of the movies you'd expect to see in theaters were released on HBO Max, Disney+ or one of the other dozen streaming services that exist these days.  I saw one of the movies pre-pandemic and most of them after the pandemic while in the movie theater, in the past 2 months.  So let's take a look at this years relatively small list (be warned, SPOILERS are below ...)     The Kid Detective I saw this trailer and thought, 'Huh, I'd watch that.' It's not one I probably would've ever gone to see in the theater typically, bu...

Casting the He-Man movie: He-Man / Prince Adam

Alright, after blogging about who should NOT be He-Man yesterday, I decided to finally go through a list of possible contenders. There are a variety of actors who already have the look.  Some have the acting ability but don't really have the look. In some cases all you'd need is blonde hair instead of brown hair.  Maybe some hair extensions, too. First, a few more who we can rule out: Mark Wahlberg? - too old to be a young He-Man ... good physique, but doesn't have the right presence to portray He-man Orlando Bloom? - doesn't have the physique or the presence to play the hero to the Universe Josh Duhamel? - pretty much the same as Wahlberg except with a less impressive physique Ashton Kutcher? - no. He's comedy. He's more of a TV actor. I don't think he'd do well in this role at all Before we talk about possibilities, we have to talk about which version of He-Man we're talking about. There's the Filmation versio...

Wonder Woman - reviewed.

So it finally happened. Wonder Woman made it to the big screen in her very own movie. If you haven't seen it, I'll leave most of this blog spoiler-free (spoilers at the very bottom). I had high hopes for this movie for more than one reason. DC needs a boost in their superheroes movie plan. Marvel obviously got a big head start with their Cinematic Universe, but DC Comics has been trying to get on track. While I was a fan of Man of Steel , I really liked the extended cut of Batman v. Superman , and I liked  Suicide Squad , they all had mixed reviews. None were as well-received as some of the Avenger movies or Captain America 3 (which was basically another Avengers movie) though. If Wonder Woman does well, then DC does well, which means Justice League may do well. That means Aquaman may do well. And the Batman movie. And the Batgirl movie. And Cyborg. And Flash. As a comic book fan, I'm a fan of that. Meanwhile, with DC going all-out on their fe...

Star Trek: Into Darkness teaser released

So who is excited for the new Star Trek movie? It seems like it's been ages since the Star Trek brand was reworked on the big screen. Star Trek , starring Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto and Zoe Saldana, was released in 2009. I guess it will be about five years old by the time the sequel goes to theatres. The movie poster looks akin to The Dark Knight Rises, but doesn't really give many clues as to what will happen in the film. The new teaser trailer for Star Trek: Into Darkness that was just released gives us a little more information. I've always been more of a Star Wars fan, but the trailer looks cool. It seems J.J. Abrams is going all out with this new threat that the crew of the Enterprise will face. In the teaser, there's a shot of what appears to be the Enterprise, crashing down into the ocean. I'm not sure what other plots will be brought into the film, but it looks like the overall plot will be the threat of someone destroying Earth. The respo...
