So ... what to do about DCEU's Batman?

There have been rumors for the better part of a year that, after three movies, Ben Affleck was done playing the role of Batman . Affleck faced a lot of criticism when it was first announced that he had the role (I never bought into that criticism myself). He silenced a lot of the haters after starring roles in Batman v. Superman and Justice League (and his brief appearance in Suicide Squad ). I guess he's been to rehab and may have some other personal issues happening --- or creative issues with Warner Brothers. I was hoping that he could have a minimized role in the DCEU, but he confirmed on a recent episode of Jimmy Kimmel that it's not happening. He's done. The question is: what do they do about Batman now? There are a few options, just as they had when rumors swirled last fall that Henry Cavill was done playing Superman: 1) Recast a new Batman for the DCEU This is my least favorite option. It really isn't an option in my opinion. It destroys...

So ... what to do about DCEU's Superman?

The news came out within the last week that Henry Cavill and Warner Brothers apparently won't be working together on any Superman projects going forward. The DCEU seemed to be getting better after the success of Wonder Woman and then this news comes along. First of all, I think it's absolutely ridiculous that DC would cast aside one of their benchmarks for a Supergirl project. No offense to Supergirl fans out there, but she's never been a succeessful character. The show will return for a fourth season this Fall on The CW, but it's been on a steady decline in viewership since it first season on CBS. The Supergirl movie was awful. The comics have never really wowed the world. I'm fine with female empowerment and all that, but you already have Wonder Woman, Harley Quinn and Captain Marvel (MCU). I don't see a Supergirl doing well in a market that already has two muscled women who can fly. Meanwhile I believe a Black Widow movie and Batgirl movie are...

Justice League - reviewed.

I went into Justice League the way I got into all movies that I want to see: without watching the trailers. I tried to avoid as many clips or previews or interviews or spoilers or reviews as possible. And I wasn't disappointed. One of my co-workers did mention to me that Joss Whedon apparently retweeted a review by Variety, which said that the villain in this movie was one of the worst villains of all time. I don't know if that's the case because I never actually took the time to find that tweet. I did see a few months back that Diane Lane, who plays Martha Kent, mentioned on an episode of Watch What Happens Live that she didn't think Justice League would be as good as The Avengers .  She released a statement later, explaining that she was saying that she couldn't reveal spoilers and that she hadn't seen The Avengers . So, there was that.  Outside of that little bit of information, I didn't know what to expect from the movie, but I was wanting ...

Can superheroes do it solo anymore?

In the day and age of epic Avengers movies and Batman vs. Superman , it seems that ensemble superhero movies are the new norm. You have Hulk apparently appearing in the next Thor movie.  The Flash appeared in an episode of last season's Supergirl . Superman (not Henry Cavill) is going to be making appearances in this season of Supergirl . Then you have Ghost Rider appearing in this season of Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D . In Season 2 of Daredevil , you had Elektra and The Punisher making appearances. Even Deadpool had a little crossover assistance from Colossus (because Fox couldn't afford to get any big names, as Deadpool stated in the movie). That's a lot of crossover situations there. I'm thrilled, as a fan. It's fun to see different superheroes interact with each other and it really stirs up the storylines. It got me thinking though: are there any superheroes left who could carry a television show or box office on their own? The X-Me...

Worst Superhero Secret Identities

It's Halloween once again. Time to dress up in costumes so that you're barely recognizable. If you don't do such a good job with that, not a big deal. After all, it's not like your loved ones are in danger if your secret identity is revealed. Some of these super heroes though? You have to wonder why they couldn't come up with something a little better. First off, there's Superman . When he's not fighting crime, he spends his time reporting at the Daily Planet as Clark Kent . The problem with this secret identity is that it consists of a pair of glasses and less hair gel. Granted, it could work if Clark Kent didn't work at a newspaper where photographers, reporters and editors are covering stories about Superman every day. Those people should have noticed the similarities instantly though. Isn't Lois Lane supposed to be an award-winning journalist? Somehow, Clark Kent's identity went typically unnoticed as a flying, saving-the-day ...

Ben Affleck as Batman? That could work.

You go away on vacation for a week and the world turns upside down aka Ben Affleck being cast as Batman . There's been a pretty severe backlash against Warner Bros. for the casting decision. There's also been some angry comments towards Affleck for being cast in the part. I have to admit: my initial reaction was, 'WTF?' Now, I'm oddly OK with Ben Affleck joining the ranks as the The Caped Crusader. First off, there's no denying that he looks the part. Second, I enjoyed his work in several movies, including his original super hero flick: Daredevil ... even though many did not . Don't get me wrong -- I would have preferred seeing Christian Bale resume his role as Batman in the upcoming Man of Steel sequel.

Man of Steel – reviewed.

Christopher Nolan succeeded in creating an incredible Dark Knight trilogy. I’m not quite sure he succeeded in creating an incredible part one in Superman’s story. In a way, the movie was really good. It introduced us to Superman, his allies and his foes. Yet, it kind of fell flat for me. When it comes to super heroes, I make it no secret that Batman is my favorite. I never really became a big fan of the Superman character until I rented the Christopher Reeve movies about five years ago. After I saw those movies, I was very eager to see Superman Returns . After I saw that one, I wanted another, but that possible franchise fell apart. When it was announced that Man of Steel was in the making, I was anxious to see what kind of magic Nolan would produce with Superman. I don’t regret going to see the movie, but I wasn’t blown away either. That being said, the Batman trilogy didn’t really pick up until The Dark Knight . Even though Batman Begins wasn’t the best film of th...

The 10 Friendliest and Meanest Aliens

Happy National Alien Abduction Day! Strangely enough, March 20 is known as alien abduction day. To celebrate, I present to you the friendliest and least friendly aliens from entertainment history. I made the list for IMDB , which I recently joined. I always used it to look up information, but I never realized that it’s actually a pretty fun website too. You can give movies ratings, make lists that rank movies and characters, and write movie reviews. It's not as addicting as FarmVille, but I've spent a few hours on it already. Here’s a look at the top five aliens from each of my lists. 5. 3rd Rock from the Sun aliens They came to Earth to study it. To do this, they took human form. Over the course of their mission they realized the pitfalls and the positives of being human. Once the mission was completed, they left. It seemed like they'd be singing the praises of the planet in their future travels. Granted, there were several points when the Big Giant He...
