The Dark Knight Rises - revisited.

When I first saw The Dark Knight Rises , I had a lot of mixed emotions. Batman was my favorite super hero growing up, so the final movie of The Dark Knight trilogy was something I anticipated ever since I saw the ending of The Dark Knight . The shooting in Colorado stopped that excitement. It was still amazing to watch the conclusion of the Christopher Nolan-directed trilogy , but it wasn’t as enjoyable as I’d anticipated. After seeing the movie twice more on the big screen in the dollar theatre and several times now on DVD, the Colorado shooting isn’t the first thing I think of when I watch the movie. I don’t get a somber feeling anymore; instead there’s a feeling of finality – which is appropriate given that this movie marks the end of the journey that started 7 years ago with Batman Begins . I’ve seen it several times over, but The Dark Knight Rises is not the most epic movie of all time. There's actually a few problems I have with it. The plot seems unrealisti...

Star Trek: Into Darkness teaser released

So who is excited for the new Star Trek movie? It seems like it's been ages since the Star Trek brand was reworked on the big screen. Star Trek , starring Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto and Zoe Saldana, was released in 2009. I guess it will be about five years old by the time the sequel goes to theatres. The movie poster looks akin to The Dark Knight Rises, but doesn't really give many clues as to what will happen in the film. The new teaser trailer for Star Trek: Into Darkness that was just released gives us a little more information. I've always been more of a Star Wars fan, but the trailer looks cool. It seems J.J. Abrams is going all out with this new threat that the crew of the Enterprise will face. In the teaser, there's a shot of what appears to be the Enterprise, crashing down into the ocean. I'm not sure what other plots will be brought into the film, but it looks like the overall plot will be the threat of someone destroying Earth. The respo...

The Dark Knight Rises - reviewed.

Well, the day finally arrived. I’ve wanted to see The Dark Knight Rises ever since, well, I saw The Dark Knight . I woke up, amped to go see the film, with my pre-purchased ticket in hand for the 10:20 a.m. showing. Then I got a phone call, telling me about what happened in Aurora, Colorado . A customer in front of me at the ticket booth had heard the news as well, asking the booth attendant if she’d heard the news. “Yeah,” she said, “It was crazy last night.” I got my soda and popcorn and sat in the theatre, reading through the initial news coverage on my phone. Kudos to the Colorado police for acting quickly and also to Warner Brothers for reacting appropriately, pulling the Gangster Squad trailer from the line up of previews scheduled to air before the movie. The previews (no Gangster Squad trailer at the theatre I went to) started and the film commenced. It was a very good movie – but it was awkward. The audience was silent during moments they probably would hav...

The Avengers - reviewed.

Disclaimer: this review is written by an unabashed super-hero fan-boy nerd and may contain some bias. I finally broke down and went to see The Avengers at AMC last week. I loved both Iron Man movies, I own both of The Incredible Hulk movies. Thor was a good flick too. The Captain America film wasn’t my favorite, but I enjoyed watching that one too. I was really anxious to see The Avengers , but I made a decision to wait until it was at the Redbox. See, when it comes to super heroes, there aren’t many I don’t like, but my allegiance always has to go to Batman. I was reading so many articles about The Avengers doing so well at the box office that I figured I’d better make sure my money goes to The Dark Knight Rises . The predecessor, The Dark Knight , is already on the top ten list of the most grossing movies of all time. I don’t want to see the Batman series edged out by The Avengers . Seriously, this is an important matter we're talking about here. We're...
