Some of the best and worst movies of 2018

It's been a busy couple of weeks. I just got done watching and reviewing Aquaman and Bumblebee. Both were added to the list of new movies I saw this year. That list is compiled and ranked (worst to best) below. It was an interesting year. There weren't that many superhero movies --- typically a main focus of my blogs --- and certainly there weren't that many good superhero movies. The Christmas Chronicles Worst movie of the year, by far.  If Netflix hopes to compete with the major movie studios, they need to step up their game.  This was no Christmas classic. I thought Kurt Russell would've been a good Santa Claus, but the character was too out there.  The sheer stupidity of the other people in the movie (who saw flying reindeer and still didn't believe that Kurt Russell was Santa) was too much to overlook. The musical number in the jail cell?  A hot steaming mess.  Maybe not even a hot mess.  Just a hot pile of dog crap. The elves that...

The Avengers: Infinity War - reviewed.

What an action-packed movie this was, huh?! Marvel and Disney have been working toward this for years and it really did come of as massive team-up movie. I really liked how they kept the feel of the individual characters while telling the overall story of Thanos and his quest for the Infinity Gauntlet. The story was pretty straightforward though they really made Thanos out to be a more dynamic character than just a power-hungry villain. The backstory of Titan made him almost human — just misunderstood. Still a bad dude but you could see where he was coming from and where he went wrong. Oh, and let's talk about his costuming.  I was very skeptical when I saw the trailer and he didn't have his battle gear on or his helmet.  He does adorn that at certain parts of the movie and I got used to seeing the movie version very quickly. It was a quick adjustment if you're used to the traditional comic book version, so good on Marvel for making that decision on the c...

My most anticipated movies of 2018

Most of these movies, of course, are super hero movies. But as each year passes and more and more super hero movies are released, the genre keeps re-inventing itself. They have to in order to stay relevant and successful. I don't know if all of these innovations will work, but we'll find out. The New Mutants Kicking off this list is March's latest X-Men movie: The New Mutants. Unlike other X-Men movies, this one is basically a horror movie. The initial preview I saw didn't impress me too much. It seemed a little bit normal in terms of horror movies. But it's the first horror movie of the super hero genre. We'll see how it goes, but I'm thinking it won't be the biggest box office hit, straying too far from the formula that makes super hero movies work. Will I still go see it? Yeah, probably. Tomb Raider I was surprised that they were remaking Tomb Raider, but I guess it has been 14 years since the last Tomb Raider, featur...
