Charlotte Cupcakes - Jewell Treats

After a week off last week, I was back at it again -- this time testing out Jewell Treats, located in SouthPark Mall.

There's a small stand outside of Gymboree, near the Apple store.

The first thing I noticed about all three cupcakes that I bought was how small they were compared to some of the others I've bought recently. They weren't mini-cupcakes, but they were far from mammoth.

Strawberry

When I was trying to figure out which cupcakes to get, the sales clerk told me that strawberry is one of their best sellers. After eating it, I can understand why. It had a very real strawberry taste. It wasn't smothered in frosting, but there was enough to make the cupcake work.

There weren't any added extras on top of the cupcake, but, in this case, keeping it simple was just fine.

Chocolate Diamond Sundae

The Sundae cupcake was full of ooey, gooey chocolatey goodness. It was like a really good chocolate brownie in a moist cupcake form. With an edible candy straw on top for decoration, the cupcake was a nice snack.

It's also topped with vanilla buttercream and some Ghiradelli chocolate syrup. The straw was actually my favorite part of the cupcake though. It wasn't needed, but was very tasty.

Cookie Dough

This cupcake was good. Cookie dough was baked inside of this one, but I'm not sure I got a very distinct cookie dough taste out of the cupcake.

It was topped with vanilla buttercream and a small chocolate chip cookie.

The combination of the frosting, the cookie and the cupcake worked to make a tasty cupcake, but it tasted more like the chocolate diamond sundae with a different topping than a cookie dough treat.

The positives: I know it doesn't have an affect on the taste, but I really liked that these cupcakes had a different shape to them. I've had a few of the cupcakes with the icing piled up on top of the cupcake, that I forgot how good cupcakes can be when they are proportioned properly.

The negatives: the cupcakes tasted great, but weren't extremely moist. Personally, I enjoyed them a lot, but if you're looking for a cupcake that melts into your mouth, keep looking -- these aren't it. There's some substance to these cupcakes.

Cost: $3.00 a cupcake. It's more expensive than the cupcakes I've gotten the past several weeks actually, but they tasted great, so it's hard to complain about the extra $.25 or $.50.

Celebrity (look-a-like) sightings - part 3

Part 1 and Part 2 were good, but I think there's some definite look-a-likes this time around. I'll get right to the comparisons, but let me know what you think? Am I spot on or what? I saved the very best (and closest comparison) for last this time, so make sure to scroll to the bottom of the page. On the left: Edge On the right: Jamie Campbell Bower May as well start with a wrestling-related one. It seems those pro wrestlers have doppelgängers all over. I'd mentioned before that Wilson Bethel resembles Edge . I still stand by that statement. However, I think Jamie Campbell Bower looks even more like Edge. Jamie Bower, for those who are unaware like I was, is an actor who has quite an impressive resume already. I just watched The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones (review to come later) and that's the first time I saw him...or so I thought. Jamie was in the final three Twilight movies, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Parts 1 and 2 , and t...

Choosing a side on DVD menu's -- what's the point?

Most DVDs go to a menu screen after you’re done hearing about ‘the cloud,’ how cigarettes can kill you and seeing a preview for the latest animated film. Some, however, give you an option. ‘Pick a side,’ they say. I’ve run into this twice recently – with the G.I. Joe DVD and The Break-Up DVD . At first I thought it was a cool concept. Maybe, if you pick Cobra’s side, there’s an alternate ending? Or maybe some special features --- like an in-depth look at Storm Shadow’s sword training. If you pick the side of the Joe’s, maybe there’s a look at their stunt training. No, no, and no. I went with Cobra and it takes you to the exact same screen, with the exact same features, as it does when you pick G.I. Joe. Same thing with The Break-Up .

Celebrity (look-a-like) sightings - part 2

Disclaimer: all of the following celebrity comparisons are based on personal opinion. You may agree with some and think I’m bat-shit crazy on others. There are ordinary people who look like other ordinary people. There are ordinary people who look like celebrities. Lastly, there are celebrities who look like other celebrities. Here's round 2 of celebrity look-a-likes: CM Punk and Adam Levine Adam Levine is the lead singer of Maroon 5. CM Punk is the longest reigning WWE Champion in recent history. Levine prefers that his hair stands straight up. Punk likes to gel his hair back. If not for the hair differences, these two could pretty much be each other. Even with the different hair styles, they could easily be brothers. I'm sure the ink-covered arms and other body parts don't hurt in making them look similar. I think Punk has more meat on him, but these two pretty much have the same build.
