So ... what to do about DCEU's Batman?

There have been rumors for the better part of a year that, after three movies, Ben Affleck was done playing the role of Batman . Affleck faced a lot of criticism when it was first announced that he had the role (I never bought into that criticism myself). He silenced a lot of the haters after starring roles in Batman v. Superman and Justice League (and his brief appearance in Suicide Squad ). I guess he's been to rehab and may have some other personal issues happening --- or creative issues with Warner Brothers. I was hoping that he could have a minimized role in the DCEU, but he confirmed on a recent episode of Jimmy Kimmel that it's not happening. He's done. The question is: what do they do about Batman now? There are a few options, just as they had when rumors swirled last fall that Henry Cavill was done playing Superman: 1) Recast a new Batman for the DCEU This is my least favorite option. It really isn't an option in my opinion. It destroys...

10 TV shows and Movies that are FINALLY on DVD

I've posted a few blogs over the past 5 years about television shows and movies that somehow aren't readily available on DVD.      -   Saturday, Jan. 5, 2013:             10 TV shows and movies that aren't on DVD, but should be      -   Sunday, Jan. 19, 2014:             10 more TV shows and movies that aren't on DVD, but should be      -   Saturday, Feb. 11, 2017:             10 TV shows and movies that STILL aren't on DVD, but should be Some people claim that the DVD is dying, but I don't think it ever will fully go away.  People still like tangible things.  They like to be the owner of something. Digital purchases just aren't the same as having a physical DVD copy of your favorite show --- at least in my opinion. Well, good news: some of that has changed!  Let's take a look at some of the TV...

So ... what to do about DCEU's Superman?

The news came out within the last week that Henry Cavill and Warner Brothers apparently won't be working together on any Superman projects going forward. The DCEU seemed to be getting better after the success of Wonder Woman and then this news comes along. First of all, I think it's absolutely ridiculous that DC would cast aside one of their benchmarks for a Supergirl project. No offense to Supergirl fans out there, but she's never been a succeessful character. The show will return for a fourth season this Fall on The CW, but it's been on a steady decline in viewership since it first season on CBS. The Supergirl movie was awful. The comics have never really wowed the world. I'm fine with female empowerment and all that, but you already have Wonder Woman, Harley Quinn and Captain Marvel (MCU). I don't see a Supergirl doing well in a market that already has two muscled women who can fly. Meanwhile I believe a Black Widow movie and Batgirl movie are...

Actors who have had multiple super hero roles

Several stars have had multiple roles in super hero movies or television shows. It’s bound to happen with so many different super hero offerings these days. Whether it’s on Netflix, on cable, in the theaters or on another subscription service, there is a lot of super hero content being churned out by Hollywood right now. That being said, there's a surprising number of actors who have I'm not the biggest fan when actors are cast as different roles in the same super hero universe. If it's one role in a DC movie and another role in a Marvel movie, that's different. However, I still like to see fresh faces. So which actors can Hollywood not seem to get enough of? Which actors keep showing up in the super hero genre? There's actually quite a few. I'm missing a few of the more minor roles, but here are 14 examples of actors who just couldn't stay away from the super hero genre. Josh Brolin This is his year. After making cameos in various Mar...

Justice League - reviewed.

I went into Justice League the way I got into all movies that I want to see: without watching the trailers. I tried to avoid as many clips or previews or interviews or spoilers or reviews as possible. And I wasn't disappointed. One of my co-workers did mention to me that Joss Whedon apparently retweeted a review by Variety, which said that the villain in this movie was one of the worst villains of all time. I don't know if that's the case because I never actually took the time to find that tweet. I did see a few months back that Diane Lane, who plays Martha Kent, mentioned on an episode of Watch What Happens Live that she didn't think Justice League would be as good as The Avengers .  She released a statement later, explaining that she was saying that she couldn't reveal spoilers and that she hadn't seen The Avengers . So, there was that.  Outside of that little bit of information, I didn't know what to expect from the movie, but I was wanting ...

I'm back from my hiatus - what's changed?

I’m baaaack.   I’ts been a hot minute since I’ve posted a new blog. Actually, it’s been about 20 months since my last blog. I’ve been busy, trying to conquer life.   Don’t you hate it when the real world gets in the way of your hobbies?? So what’s changed since I’ve been away? I noticed a few things: DVD-makers have been reading my blogs I’ve noticed that some DVD-makers out there must have been following my blog (that’s gotta’ be it, right?).   First up, the 1960’s Batman is now available on DVD.   Yeah!!   I said in my January 2013 blog that it should be released on DVD.   Thankfully, in November of 2014, it was.   That’s progress right there (side note: yes, I do realize that I didn’t actually have anything to do with that … but I’m taking credit for it). In that same post, I also mentioned The Nanny .   Three seasons were released several years ago, but in April of 2015 they finally put out the entire series. ...

Things We Learned in 2013

There were a few things that were learned over the course of the last 12 months. Here are the most important things: If you want a successful movie at the box office, put The Rock in it . The man was the highest grossing actor of the year (even beating out Robert Downey Jr.). Batman is the best super hero of all time . They wouldn’t even let him rest in peace. The Dark Knight trilogy just ended and they're already planning more movies with a new Batman. Even Spider-Man got three years before they rebooted his franchise. Billy Ray Cyrus is not the father of the year . Watch the Mtv Video Music Awards to see proof of that. The Carolina Panthers can be a legitimate team . They've had the best season in over a decade. Super Bowl chances?? We'll see. One thing is for sure: it's Cam Newton's best season yet.

Actors who have played more than one comic book super hero

I blogged about Ben Affleck being Batman the other day and why I think it could work. One of the reasons I mentioned was his performance in Daredevil. While some critics and viewers didn’t like the movie, I thought it was decent, if not borderline good. So Batman and Daredevil will both be on Ben Affleck’s list of super hero portrayals. Not too shabby. He’s actually not alone in playing more than one super hero. Affleck joins a short list of actors who have played more than one hero or villain in the Marvel and D.C. universes.

Ben Affleck as Batman? That could work.

You go away on vacation for a week and the world turns upside down aka Ben Affleck being cast as Batman . There's been a pretty severe backlash against Warner Bros. for the casting decision. There's also been some angry comments towards Affleck for being cast in the part. I have to admit: my initial reaction was, 'WTF?' Now, I'm oddly OK with Ben Affleck joining the ranks as the The Caped Crusader. First off, there's no denying that he looks the part. Second, I enjoyed his work in several movies, including his original super hero flick: Daredevil ... even though many did not . Don't get me wrong -- I would have preferred seeing Christian Bale resume his role as Batman in the upcoming Man of Steel sequel.
